How It Works
Pick a Passage Type: Choose Literary Fiction, Poetry, Informational, or Speech. The AI adjusts which CCSS anchor tier (RL vs RI) it uses and how it weights craft & structure questions relative to key-ideas questions.
Upload or Reference the Text: Upload the passage as PDF / DOCX or paste a URL (Project Gutenberg, CommonLit, ReadWorks, National Archives). If the passage is short, paste it directly. If you skip this, the AI writes questions by paragraph / stanza / line-number reference so your distributed text will match.

What subjects and grades is this for?
Primarily K-12 English Language Arts, but the informational and speech variants work for social studies primary-source reads. The four passage types cover the shape of virtually any single-text close reading a teacher would assign in grades K-12.
How is this different from a Quiz?
A Quiz is multiple-choice-heavy and can cover a broad topic. A Close Reading Set is short-answer only, requires students to cite evidence directly from a specific passage, and is organized by CCSS anchor tier (literal → inferential → craft & structure → integration). It's the daily comprehension workhorse, not a summative recall check.
Do I have to attach the passage?
Strongly recommended. Attached passages let the AI ground every question in specific words and lines. If you skip it, the AI writes questions by paragraph / stanza / line-number reference and never fabricates quotations — but you'll need to distribute the actual text separately.
Can I get a printable student version without answer keys?
Yes. The result page has two DOCX download buttons: "Student DOC" (passage + questions only) and "Teacher DOC (with key)" (adds sample responses + teacher notes). On-screen, there's a toggle to hide / show answer keys per question.
Does this work with CommonLit, ReadWorks, or my own PDFs?
Yes. Upload PDFs or paste URLs. The AI reads the text (up to typical excerpt length) and grounds the questions in what students will actually see.
