Texas TEKS Social Studies Standards

The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for social studies, as amended in 2022, set out what Texas students learn in each grade from kindergarten to grade 8 and in U.S. History Studies Since 1877. Every level is organized into eight strands: history, geography, economics, government, citizenship, culture, science, technology, and society, and social studies skills. Each grade follows its own theme, from the family and community in the early grades to Texas history in grade 4 and U.S. history in grades 5 and 8, and under each knowledge and skills statement are the student expectations teachers plan and assess against.
